Complete Nissan Patrol OM606 Conversion Kit

This kit fits the Mercedes Benz OM606 3.0 litre inline six into a Nissan Patrol Y60 or Y61 while keeping the Patrol’s own drivetrain behind it. The transmission adapter kit, flywheel assembly and clutch package make the join; the engine mounts are bolt on.

The engine is supplied as a package with a Dieselmeken 8mm fuel pump, which is where most builders start when they want a mechanical diesel with room to be tuned rather than an electronically managed one.

The case for a mechanical diesel

Every OM606 Nissan Patrol kit we build is bought for the same reason, and it is not power. It is that there is no engine management in the equation. No ECU, no conversion loom, no immobiliser to defeat, no sensor whose failure stops the vehicle somewhere inconvenient. Fuelling is decided by a mechanical pump, and the Dieselmeken 8mm element is the part builders specify precisely because it can be adjusted later without a laptop.

The trade is real and worth stating plainly. You give up modern diagnostics: when something is wrong there is no code to read, only mechanical symptoms to work through. For expedition vehicles, for builds that live a long way from a specialist, and for anyone who would rather carry tools than a fault reader, that is the trade they want. For a vehicle that spends most of its life on tarmac and needs to drive an automatic gearbox, it usually is not.

The alternative from us is the Nissan Patrol M57 conversion kit, which is the electronically managed route and comes with an ECU, an engine harness and an electronic throttle pedal. Same vehicle, opposite philosophy.

What stays with the vehicle

There is no gearbox on that list and no transfer case, and that is by design: the Patrol keeps its own, which is why the transmission adapter kit, flywheel assembly and clutch package are there. They are what makes a Mercedes engine drive a Nissan gearbox.

The consequence is worth thinking about before you order. The kit assumes the existing transmission is fit to keep. If the gearbox or clutch hydraulics were already tired, this conversion does not improve them and will ask more of them. Look at what you have before the engine arrives, not after.

Outside the kit entirely: propshafts, the exhaust system beyond the integration components, fuel tank work, and any bodywork. The mounts are included here, so you do not need the OM606 engine mount kit as well; that product exists for people fitting an engine they already own.
