How we got here

Nordwerk4x4 started the way most good workshops do: with a vehicle that deserved better than the engine it left the factory with. The first conversions were for our own trucks and for friends who had watched them work — and the parts that did not exist, we made.

Six years and more than 1,200 kits later, that has not really changed. We still design every bracket, adapter plate and harness ourselves, we still machine and assemble them in our own workshop, and we still put them under vehicles we drive before we sell them to anyone else.

What has changed is the reach. Kits now leave our building for Land Rover Defenders in Scotland, Nissan Patrols in Spain, Pajeros in Scandinavia and Transits headed a very long way from any of them. We ship worldwide, we price in euro, and we support customers in sixteen languages.

MAER chassis systems

We supply MAER chassis systems for Defender, Discovery and Range Rover restorations. Our workshop can deliver yours with a fully mounted BMW M57 powertrain, so your build starts a long way ahead.

A galvanised chassis under a tired vehicle changes the economics of a restoration completely. Because we build the powertrain anyway, we can hand over a rolling foundation with the engine, gearbox, mounts and cooling already installed and aligned — which removes the hardest and most expensive week of the build from your workshop.

A conversion kit is only as good as the week you spend installing it. Every kit we ship includes a step-by-step installation video filmed on the same platform your kit is built for, and direct access to the engineers who built it — not a ticket queue.

Send us a photograph of where you have got to and you will get an answer from someone who has done that exact job. That is also why we back every kit with a 12-month warranty — if something we made is not right, we put it right.

The workshop

Where the kits are built

Everything we sell is designed, machined, assembled and tested in our own workshop in Markranstädt, 11km west of Leipzig in Saxony, eastern Germany, and leaves the country from that same building.

Engine conversion work is a supply-chain problem as much as an engineering one. Keeping the design, the machining, the wiring looms and the final assembly of a kit under one roof is what lets us change a bracket on a Tuesday because a customer found a clearance problem on a Monday — and it is why the parts in a Nordwerk4x4 kit fit each other.

From Saxony a pallet reaches most of Europe on a road trailer, which is why a complete BMW M57, N57 or Mercedes-Benz OM606 package travels as ordinary freight rather than as an export project. We ship across Europe and worldwide, price in euro, and publish this shop in sixteen languages.

You are welcome to collect from the workshop instead of taking delivery: tell us when you order and we will have the consignment palletised and ready, or send your own transport. For selected platforms we can also fit the conversion here — the drive-in, drive-out package priced on those product pages. Both are arranged through the contact form.
