The M57 Transit Conversion Kit is a complete BMW M57 3.0L turbo diesel engine swap package designed for Ford Transit conversions using the Ford MT82 gearbox.

This package is supplied with a fully rebuilt BMW M57 engine, providing a strong and reliable foundation for a Transit performance conversion. The engine is rebuilt before installation and supplied together with all of the major mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, exhaust, clutch, and engine management components required to complete the conversion.

The only kit here that ships a rebuilt engine

Our other conversion kits list a BMW M57 engine. This one lists a fully rebuilt BMW M57 engine, and the difference is deliberate. A Transit is usually a working vehicle: a van that earns, a camper that has to start in a car park in February, or a build that gets sold on. In all three cases a rebuilt engine matters more than it would on a weekend Defender, because nobody wants to take the engine back out of a van that is finished.

If you would rather start from a zero mileage engine instead, we sell brand new M57 engines separately, and this kit is also offered without an engine at all, which is covered below.

The MT82 join

The join to the gearbox is all new: an M57 to MT82 adaptor plate, a performance clutch pressure plate, a flywheel and bolts, and a clutch disc cut to the correct MT82 spline. That is what allows a BMW engine to drive a Ford transmission without improvisation.

That clutch disc is the detail that is hard to buy anywhere else. Both sides of a clutch have to agree about the spline, which is why the kit lists a disc cut specifically to the MT82 pattern rather than a standard BMW one. Most of a conversion can be fabricated or adapted by a competent workshop; that part has to be made.

How the ECU is supplied

The ECU ships configured as listed above, with the immobiliser, DPF and EGR off and a speed fix applied, and the EGR and EGR cooler deleted on the engine.

The kit as itemised above is the MT82 version, so if you want one of the BMW gearboxes instead, the adaptor plate, clutch and flywheel items change with it. Tell us which gearbox you want and we will quote that specification rather than this one.

That option is for someone who already owns a sound M57, usually from a donor car bought for the purpose, and needs everything else. It is worth doing the arithmetic honestly, including what it costs to verify an engine you did not rebuild yourself.

Before you order

Have the MK generation and the year, whether the van is front or rear wheel drive, which gearbox is in it now and which you want afterwards, and whether you are supplying an engine. Say what the van is for as well, because a camper, a working van and a resale build get specified differently.
