Complete BMW M57 conversion kit for Mitsubishi Pajero, Montero and Shogun, Mk2 to Mk4. Supplied with adapter plate, ECU, wiring harness, clutch and flywheel, bolt in engine mounting and a front mounted aluminium intercooler package.
This is a complete bolt in kit for fitting the BMW M57 3.0L turbo diesel into Mitsubishi Pajero, Montero and Shogun models while retaining the original Mitsubishi drivetrain. No welding is required: the engine mounting brackets, gearbox mounting brackets and, where applicable, the transmission crossmember are all supplied.
The engine runs on a stand-alone ECU and a plug and play conversion loom rather than the Mitsubishi engine management, and the accelerator pedal assembly, OBD diagnostic port, relays, fuses and connectors come with it. The kit is aimed at Mk2 to Mk4 vehicles built for off road, expedition and performance use.
The awkward part of any Pajero M57 swap is not the engine or the mounts, it is engine management. A BMW common rail diesel expects BMW electronics, and a Pajero expects to be talking to a Mitsubishi engine. Trying to make those two understand each other is where conversions go quiet for six months.
This kit avoids the conversation entirely. The M57 runs on its own stand-alone ECU with a plug and play conversion loom, which means the vehicle’s original engine management is simply not involved. The accelerator pedal assembly is in the kit because the M57 needs an electronic throttle pedal, which is why every M57 kit we sell supplies one, and the OBD diagnostic port is there so you still have somewhere to plug a reader in afterwards. Relays, fuses and connectors are included rather than left as an evening at a parts counter.

This is the most important paragraph on the page for anyone comparing quotes. Look again at the wording: engine ancillaries depending on specification, transfer case adapter components where required, and the transmission crossmember where applicable. Those qualifiers are honest rather than evasive, because the Pajero, Montero and Shogun across three generations are not one vehicle, and what your car needs is decided by which one you have.
The practical consequence is that you should not order this kit from the list alone. Ask us to confirm, in writing, whether those three items are included for your specific vehicle. Ask about the clutch and flywheel at the same time and we will confirm the specification your gearbox takes.
• Mitsubishi Pajero Mk2
• Mitsubishi Pajero Mk3
• Mitsubishi Pajero Mk4
• Mitsubishi Montero
• Mitsubishi Shogun
The original Mitsubishi transmission and transfer case stay with the vehicle, which is the whole idea, so nothing here replaces them. Beyond that: propshafts, the exhaust system past the connection components, the radiator itself, fuel tank work and brakes are all yours. Look hard at the condition of the existing gearbox before ordering, because a conversion that keeps it will not improve it.
Tell us the market name your vehicle carries, Pajero, Montero or Shogun, the generation, the year, and whether it is manual or automatic. Send the gearbox identification if you have it. We will then confirm which adapter system applies and which of the conditional items your build includes.
One oddity worth knowing about: our 6HP and 8HP transfer case adapter page carries a GS6-37 to Pajero 2.8 entry in its adapts list. If you are building along those lines rather than keeping the standard drivetrain, mention it and we will work out what you actually need.
